Jon Davy
My name is Jon Davy, and I’ve been fascinated by the First World War since I spent a week living in a waterlogged trench during officer training in 1988. I have been coming to the Western Front for 30 years, yet still find the echoes and traces of the terrible events that happened here deeply moving.
My research often allows me to pinpoint exactly where individual soldiers lived, fought, and were wounded or died. This allows the visitor to build a strongly-personal connection with the battlefield and provides a contrast to the incomprehensible losses and suffering represented by the magnificent memorials and sweeping cemeteries that dot the landscape.
I love showing people around the battlefields and am a member of the Guild of Battlefield Guides. I have run tours for individuals, families and larger groups. Last year, I created Flanders Footsteps to help more people experience these haunting places.
